The Half Day Hike in Phoenix gives you a new way to experience the beauty and excitement of hiking in Phoenix with an expert guide! On this hassle and worry free "guided hike", you'll have a safe, fun-filled and the most rewarding experience possible.

Your hike can take place on trails from one of the following major mountains: Camelback Mountain, Piestewa Peak, South Mountain or McDowell Mountain and others.

Whether for leisure or a physical challenge, hiking is an educational experience and an extremely popular activity in Phoenix aka the Valley of the Sun. On this tour, you'll learn about the many desert inhabitants such as cacti, other flora, animals and interesting rocks.

With sufficient notice we can assign a guide who speaks Spanish, German, or ASL (American Sign Language with or without an interpreter) for your convenience.

FAQs

How do I get to the trailhead on the day of the hike?
When you reserve your hike, you can elect to be picked up or get to the trail by yourself. Without transportation, it is your responsibility to be at the trailhead before the time specified on your confirmation. Please keep in mind due to the very early hour that our morning hike day begins, your hike guide may not be available via e-mail or telephone.

What do snacks/lunch boxes include?
A variety of fruits, such as apple and banana; veggies like mini carrots and celery with sour cream; dried fruits, like raisins; Veggies and/or deli sandwich with or without cheese and of course, just a few little sweet-tooth bites.

Is there something I should know prior to starting my hike?
Yes. You will be asked to read and sign a Liability/Waiver Agreement and Desert Safety tips/Trail Etiquette form prior to starting the hiking tour. Always follow your leader. Stay on the trail at all times. It's the law!

Is this tour insured?
Yes, it is fully insured. For your safety, all guides are certified in first aid and CPR.

What to wear/bring?
Light, bright colored clothing, long sleeves and your favorite wide brim cap/hat are recommended for hikers with fair skin and appropriate hiking shoes/boots. Please bring your favorite sunscreen. Finally, bring your camera!

What if I'm late for my scheduled hike time (departure from the trailhead)? What happens?
Please be punctual, tours leave on time. Each person in your hike group depends upon everyone else to be there at the specified time.

It is 115 degrees outside in July! Do we still hike in this hot weather?
During the long, hot summer days, guided hikes may be limited due to the extreme high desert heat.

Why is it extremely important to drink more water in Phoenix than elsewhere?
No one wants to run out of cold drinking water or lose his/her way in the middle of the Southwest Sonoran Desert. Communing with nature in these often harsh conditions requires that you drink plenty of fluids. You must keep yourself properly hydrated. Remember that by the time you feel thirsty, you may already be dehydrated. It has been reported that a person can lose fluids in the Arizona heat at a rate equal to two soda cans an hour! The famous dry heat can really dry you out. Your guide will make certain that you take in plenty of refreshing fluids before, during and after hiking.

~ Hikes are canceled if morning temperature exceeds 105 degrees or weather prediction.
